The minimum age that can participate in our Reformer classes is 14, however we do ask that all children under the age of 18 have a parent/guardian accompany them during the class.

The instructor will recommend spring choices and intensity modifications for the exercises so go with what works for you. The reformer can be a little intimidating to begin with and it can take a few classes to really get to know it and feel more comfortable. As with anything it may take a bit of getting used to before it feels natural to you.

What is the difference between Reformer and Mat work Pilates?
Mat work was the original Pilates style which Joseph Pilates created using solely your own body weight to focus on core strength, flexibility and breathing technique. Reformer Pilates offers a wider range of exercises targeting certain muscle areas due to the adjustable resistance and sliding carriage. Reformer can challenge you at different levels making it suitable from a beginner to an advanced level allowing for progressions. The reformer supports the body whilst assisting in the movements. The Reformer can give the user feedback as too if they need to adjust their positioning, modify the exercise or change the springs. Reformer Pilates is low impact but high efficiency workout, in other words it is gentle yet effective.
